Gordon was born and raised in Michigan, and began playing
music and composing early on. He majored in psychology
and minored in music at Western Michigan University. After
college Gordon traveled throughout the US playing music
in coffeehouses and colleges from California to Boston,
finally making a home on the south shore of Boston,
in an idyllic harbor town called Cohasset. This
was his base of operations from the late seventies
as he played music professionally, taught music, and later
taught Music Therapy at Northeastern University.
Gordon also found his spiritual home there, in Cohasset, MA.
at the Vedanta Centre, under the spiritual leadership
of Srimata Gayatri Devi. He was soon given the position
of Music Director, writing much of the ashram's music,
coordinating music for all activities, leading the choir,
and recording and publishing music for the center.
The teaching and inspiration that the Vedanta Centre is
founded upon comes from Swami Paramananda, and Srimata
Gayatri Devi, who was his successor until her passing
in 1995. In each window of the temple is a stained
glass symbol of one of the world's religions. The
basic principle of Vedanta Philosophy being that just
as light passes equally through all windows, the light
of truth shines through all spiritual paths
In the late eighties, Miron and Joan Borysenko, who
then lived in the nearby town of Scituate, came to
know and love Gordon's music and felt it should
be brought to a larger audience, so they produced
and promoted his first solo album, "Rhythm of Life".
He began providing music for, and co-leading workshops
from Boston to Seattle with both Miron and Joan Borysenko,
and was soon leading his own workshops and giving concerts
in major New Age and spiritual centers throughout the
US. Gordon also taught Music Therapy at Northeastern University,
Boston, MA., and brought much of his knowledge into
his workshops on "Healing and Spiritual Consciousness
Through Music". Gordon is currently based in La
Crescenta, CA, where he continues to share his love for
earth, humankind, and the Spirit that dwells in all, through
the healing and spiritual power of music! |
